Covid Weekly Report: Sharp drop in new cases, hospitalizations continue

The Public Health Division released its first report after Governor John Carney’s state of emergency ended showing a continued decline in new cases and hospitalizations.

Over a one-week period, none of the nine people who died from the virus had received a booster shot, with 89% of those who died unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

Weekly cases and hospitalizations:

  • – Total positive cases since March 11, 2020: 257,065
  • – Seven-day average of new positive cases: 102.9, down 24.1 percentage points from last week.
  • – Seven-day average for percentage of total positive tests: 4.2%, down 0.8 percentage points from last week.
  • – Hospitalizations: 76, a decrease of 22 compared to last week; critically ill: nine, a decrease of 2 from last week.
  • – Total Covid-19 deaths: 2,713
  • – Total Covid-19 deaths reported since last week: seven, including two from a review of vital records.

Vaccination

  • – Total number of doses administered in Delaware: 1,693,944
  • – Percentage of Delawareans 5+ fully vaccinated (CDC data): 71.7%
  • – Percentage of Delawareans age 12 and older fully vaccinated (CDC data): 76.1%
  • – Percentage of Delawareans 18 and older fully vaccinated (CDC data): 77.6%
  • – Percentage of Delawares fully immunized (CDC data): 67.7%

The following reports capture a weekly breakdown of vaccination status for cases, deaths and hospitalizations from February 21 through February 27.

The Public Health Division no longer provides weekly updates on breakthrough cases that occur among fully vaccinated people. Breakthroughs accounted for less than 4% of the total number of cases. Information on the cases can be found here.
